I know you asked this question in March, and it is now May, so you’ve either figured out how to complete the installation, or moved on to something else. But just in case you are coming back here every few days or once a week waiting on an answer, let me offer these few suggestions.
First let me begin with the documentation at this link, http://www.spip.net/en_article84.html . This is pretty straight forward, in fact I used it last night to install SPIP at http://www.fltstd.com .
Before you begin the installation, depending on your hosting provider, you may need to create a MySQL database for the installation, this is my case. So here are the steps I used to install SPIP !
1. Created a database for the installation.
2. Downloaded the full SPIP application from the front page of the English start pages : http://www.spip.net/en.
3. I unzipped these files into my c :\Temp directory.
4. I then uploaded them to my hosted web space in the root of the directory.
5. I then navigated with a web browser to my admin directory at http://www.fltstd.com/ecrire ; this started the web-based installation.
6. I followed the onscreen instructions and logged into the Administrative/Backend at the end of the installation process.
Everything is working as advertised. I am now working on a set of templates and should be fully up and operation in a matter of a few weeks or so.
I do hope this is of some help...
