https removes formatting from linked pages solved

by djgw - 30 March 2016 04:02 - Replies : 4

Hi,

I am trying to use SSL provided by Lets Encrypt on my site. I have set up and installed certificates from Cpanel and changed the site configuration with https:// as well as clearing the cache.

When I open the home page https://plantcad.com the page loads correctly however when I click on a linked page all formatting is lost.

In the page source I notice all links are referencing port 80 - <base href="https://plantcad.com:80/" />

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
David

  • I have discovered a solution however I am not sure if it is the ’correct’ solution. When URL addresses are set as HTML objects URLs the pages display correctly however there are still some minor CSS formatting problems.

In the source there is no longer a ’base’ tag, instead of <base href="https://plantcad.com:80/" />
there is href="https://plantcad.com:80" So the port 80 reference is not the issue but the base tag seems to be.

I hope this may help others.

  • Actually, the port 80 inclusion in the generated URL is problematic when serving images which are part of the template.

Images are not retrieved so CSS such as this: background: url("//plantcad.com:80/themes/theme_HigherGround1-1/img/nav.jpg") repeat-x; will fail.

Any help to fix this is appreciated!

    Thanks

  • I have just updated SPIP to 3.1.1 hoping this will address the problem - without success.

I’ve also searched through templates and CSS code to see how or where references to port 80 might be included.

SPIP requests an image with this URL https://plantcad.com:80/themes/theme_HigherGround1-1/img/nav.jpg - which fails. Of course the same URL without port 80 succeeds.

Maybe this is a problem with my web host setup?

    Thanks in advance...

  • Thanks to nfriedli in the French forum where the following solution was posted:

Create a mes_options.php file (refer to SPIP documentation) in the SPIP config directory with the code below.

    $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT']='443';

This has fixed all problems in my installation including error messages I was getting in the private area.
