SPIP 1.6 website server migration, any precautions to take ?

Hello,

I recently took over the administration of a website made using SPIP 1.6. We are going to have to have the website migrated to a new server, and I like to know what precautions I have to take, if any. The new server has the same PHP and MySQL versions as the current server. The root directory make will have to change so are there any path problems due to that, are absolute paths used in SPIP ? I have never installed and configured SPIP myself, so I fairly nervous to the idea of migrating it.

Spip does not use any absolute paths. When you install it, every files and directories openings are relative to the script being executed. The only absolute things are of course the URLs to acces it from outside, but of course you manage it from your http server.

By the way, after doing this you sould consider an upgrade of SPIP. The current version is 1.9.2, the 1.6 is almost 4 years old, there as been a lot of bug fixes and new functionnalities since.

Thank you for your help. I can’t upgrade SPIP because the person that installed/created the website also modified SPIP’s code to suite him, and I have no idea what he changed. I’ll look into it once I have more time thought.
